Mountain News

Apr 1: Started out drizzly, but turned out to be a nice day. Boiled sap and got the booths ready to set up down at Towle's today. Loaded the truck last night with the first load. Will head down there this am and then come back and get the rest. Be sure you stop in at Towle's and see what everyone has to offer!!

Apr 2: Absolutely beautiful day!!! We got the booths set up down to Towle's Market in W. Stewartstown. Will post some pictures later on. Came back home and boiled some sap while Lainie raked out the road. Will boil again today. It is supposed to be in the 70s again today and tomorrow. Bring it on!!!

Apr 3: Very warm!!! 74 degrees. Supposed to be in the 80s today. Spent the day boiling sap and doing yard work. Worked down in the campground last night. It was a t-shirt day. Ended up with light sunburns!!! Will try to finish boiling today. Have about 8 gallons of sap left.

Apr 4: Temps reached the mid 80's yesterday. We spent the day cleaning up the campground. Boiled off most of what was left of the sap. Will probably boil off today. Will get about 3/4 of a gallon. It's supposed to be in the 60's today, so it will feel cold. Got a call from Mountain View. They have about a months work cleaning up the campground. Will be about 10 to 15 hours per week. Better than nothing.

Apr 5: Cooler but nice. Did a lot of yard work. Will probably do some of the same today. Looks like the weather is going to be cool and slightly damp for the rest of the week.

Apr 6: Much cooler out. Cleaned up most of the mess down at Mo's from plowing. Put most of the material up here in the area near the work shop. Lainie went down and did some work on the Camp Otter Trail picking up debris and some of the blow downs. Later on, she saw a cow moose down at Murphy Dam. We took a ride in the early evening looking for moose. Only saw one deer!! We also took a short walk on the Falls in The River Trail from 2nd Dam. Doesn't appear to be in real bad shape.

Apr 7: Cloudy yesterday, but nice overall. Put in two new small culverts to divert water away from the work shop. Lainie went out to the Camp Otter trail and put in some steps going on to Magalloway Rd. They came out real nice. We took a ride up moose alley last night and saw one big moose.

Apr 8: Somewhat nice yesterday. Thunderstorm early in the am but turned out nice. Lainie and I went up to 2nd Dam and began cutting open the Falls in the River Trail. We got about 1/3 of the trail open. Lots of blow downs and tangles. We spent around 6 hours of chain saw work and were some sore when we got home!!

Apr 9: Cool yesterday. We had a busy day. Started with a meeting with the state at Lake Francis then picked up the roof trusses for the bridges and brought them up to Big Brook Rd and West Inlet Rd. then there was a trip to Colebrook for printer supplies. Last night we went to the Ridgerunners meeting. To our surprise, John and Kim were there!!! Good to see them again. For Kim's sake, the putties are doing fine. Boots and Paddles are getting on each other's nerves as I write this. Peewee is sleeping on the bed. A big meeting for the Cohos Trail today with F&G and LandVest about our plans for the summer.

Apr 10: Nasty white stuff on the ground this morning. Meeting with F&G went very well yesterday. Looks like the trail will get completed this year!!! Everone is excited!

Apr 11: Well, the sun finally appeared and the snow melted. Stayed cool most of the day. Lainie spent the day making up a brochure for the Cohos Trail. Came out really nice. I boiled down the rest of our sap. Got about a pint. Cloudy this am, but atleast no snow!!! We are going back to the old format for mountain news.
