March 1: Another inch or so of snow last night. Temperature reached almost 40 degrees yesterday. Keep it coming!! If this keeps up, we will be sapping before long. Talked to Tim last night down in Sanford, Me. They never lost their power. My brother, Gary, lost his for two days down in Strafford, NH. We have been hearing that nearly 100000 people were still out of power as of yestereday in southern NH.
March 2: Went out yesterday and cleaned up the road with the plow. On the last pass, looked in the rear view mirror and there was a Fed Ex truck behind us. He's not intimidated by the hill!!! He was delivering a package from Lainie's sister Sharon. Well, this computer is still holding up. It still shuts down if it gets too warm and takes forever to reboot. (hours) But, the new off lease computer should be here today or tomorrow. Then the tedious job of transferring our stuff begins. The weather looks comfortable for the next week or so. People should start syruping soon. Sounds like we got spared the destruction they got down below.
March 3: A warm 44 degrees yesterday. The road has opened up nicely. In fact we made it up almost all the way in 2wd. Only put it in 4wd for about 10 feet by the driveway at Wetherbee's. Seeing the temperatures for the next week, sapping should be starting up in the next day or so. The new computer should be in today. If the weather is nice, we may be grabbing the snowshoes and going out looking for moosesheds. We'll see what the day brings.
March 4: Warm again yesterday. We can come all the way to the house now in 2wd. Our old computer finally died and I have been trying to set up the new one. Had problems getting connected back to the website. Seems to be fine now.
March 5: Another warm day. It's kind of nice being able to drive up and down the mountain in 2wd. Lisa and Angie are due up tonight with some friends. We will be going to the snodeo tomorrow. Should be a lot of fun.
March 6: Warm and sunny. It reached 39 degrees. Jeff and Kim are up as well as Dean and Heidi. Going to the snodeo today to see the vintage races and snowmobile stunt riders. Should be a good day. Temperature is suppose to be 42 degrees and sunny.
March 7: Happy birthday to my nephew, Brad. I believe he is 35 today. Beautiful day at the SnoDeo. Sunny and comfortable. The Rave X team was awesome to watch. Those young kids had no fear. We had a visitor at around 6:30 am yesterday. Mark at Camp Coleman was bored, so he road his sled up. He and his brother are up for the weekend. Congratulations to Woodman on his recent retirement from the government.
March 8: Happy birthday to Aaron Jr. 7 years old. Awesome day yesterday. Got the cold frames cleaned out so the sun can warm the ground up. Hopefully we will be able to put some cold weather plants in there soon. Lainie got her shrubs unburied from weight of the snow. can't wait for spring. It would be great if we can get back to working on the trail soon. Quiet on the mountain again, everyone has gone home.
March 9: Not as warm yesterday. Tapped 10 trees. Sap is running good. Should start boiling in just a couple of days. Lainie worked up in the Bungalow putting some storage places in the knee walls. Deer aren't coming around as much now. Have only seen the doe and fawn occassionaly. Must be the spring like weather. Going to town meeting today.
March10: Cooler temps yesterday. There was a good turnout at the town meeting. Pittsburg usually does anyways. Temperatures don't look good for the next week for you snowmobilers. Looks like the trails will be shut down in March once again.
